Fall Break Vacation: Manteca, Harris Beach State Park and Olympic National Park and Penninsula

For Tony's Fall break (he gets two weeks off following his first trimester) we went north for our first visit to Olympic National Park.  We were also determined to visit the Makah Reservation at the very northwest corner of the United States.

We were lucky as our plans coincided with Anna, our niece, reporting her mission in Tracy.  We listened via ZOOM when she reported in North Logan.  I have no pictures of the meeting but she and her folks came to dinner after at Caleb and Annie's where we were staying.  At the meeting we saw our old neighbor, Kade Peterson who is now the stake president, as well as his counsellors and President Brown from the old stake presidency.  We also saw Brother Hammond from our ward in San Jose.  The Saturday before we took Caleb and Annie and kids to Red Robin.  We were leaning to the Mexican place near by, by Todd was so excited when he saw Red Robin we went there.  The only picture I got was of Caleb's youngest

From Manteca we headed north.  Sheri loves Harris State Beach in Oregon so our first goal was her so we didn't have to drive the whole way in one day.  One thing about Oregon, you can't pump your own gas.  It really makes me feel weird having someone else do this.  It was foggy at Harris State Beach.  we walked down from the campsite to the beach.  The camp was nice with free showers.

Lake Sylvia State Park is in Montesano, Washington.  It is like right in town.  It is a very nice park, which a nice swim area.  We stayed there just because it was convenient on the way to Olympic National Park. We arrived after five so the office was closed. Paying for the state park fee was a pain.  There was a pay kiosk.  Then we had to stuff the camping fee in an envelope.  (No pictures.)

Lake Quinault was our very first stop in Olympic National Park.  This is the southwest corner of the park.  We didn't stay, just turned around as it seemed a resort and not for us.

Kalaloch Beach 4 and Ruby Beach are on the Washington Coast.  In the ocean is destruction island on which there is a light house.   Destruction Island is just off the coast.

From the beaches we followed the 101 until we turned off to the Hoh Rain Forest.  To be a rainforest you must get over 100 inches of rain per year.  In Hoh they get about 120 inches.  It rains frequently, and mists a lot as well.

Going from Hoh to Cape Flattery we passed through Forks.  We only stopped at a transportation center to use the rest room, but we wanted to document our visit to the center of the vampire world with a picture.

You can see Canada across San Juan de Fuca
