Hispanic Club at Tony's High School: Day of the Dead

Image
I went with Tony to the Day of the Dead activities at Lee Williams High School.  Several clubs were having activities at the same time before the football game on Friday.  Tony purchased the shirt commemorating the Firefighters who lost their lives in 1973.  He also had his face painted.  He was helping with a board game.  I played and didn't do very well.  I was always being sent back to start.  The most impressive thing were the ofrendas the kids had made.  They included a class mate who died earlier this year.  He was a friend of Tony's.  They also made ofrendas to celebrities.  There was some dancing to Mexican music as well.

This is Tony's Spanish class Day of the Dead piñata.  Of course this is posted late.  We stuffed the piñata full of candy for a weekend party; but then Tony was asked not to go to school for a week as he had been exposed to Covid at school (he never got sick); so he missed the party and breaking his own piñata.  It was paper mâché over cardboard which had been taped together.  And then a few frillies from the dollar store for decoration.   We all helped make a mess with the paste which was pretty fun.
