HOH rain forest: Olympic National Park

Image
To be considered a rain forest an area must receive 100 inches of rain per year.  Hoh receives 140 inches. A special attraction at the rain forest is the Hall of Mosses.  There are both deciduous trees and conifers.  The root systems are not deep because of the amount of rain.  For this reason many trees have fallen.  Mosses, ferns and mushrooms grow in abundance.  (Mushrooms can be seen here.)  Hall of Mosses creek the trail goes over ferns deer on trail between visitor's center and our campground Hoh River was foggy in the morning as we left.  It was right behind our campground

Harris State Beach, Oregon

Harris State Beach was the first night of our vacation after leaving Caleb's.  It is a very lovely beach.  However it was too cold to venture into the water.  It was dusk when we headed to the beach, and dark when we came back.   The big rock island in the ocean has always fascinated me.
