Traveling through Monument Valley

Image
Monument Valley is in the Navajo Nation and shared by both Arizona and Utah.  We made it a point to go through the valley and out return trip from Moab and Arches over Easter weekend.

Kingman Hikes: Cerbat Foothills

Image
This area is off of the 93 but is only accessed from the southbound lanes.  If you are getting there from Kingman you have to go past the area and turn around and come back towards Kingman.  The first turn around is at the turquoise store.   There are several hikes which come off of the parking area.  I just did close hikes to the parking; but even so I found some interesting tings.  The first is a hole in the rock cliff.  I imagine someone was mining but is actually seems sort of strange that they would make a hole in the solid rock.  The really story of this hole would be interesting to know.  This is desert landscape with very interesting rock formations. inside the hole in the stone

Easter Weekend: Monticello to Moab

Image
Friday we started with a visit to the Monticello Temple.  Te road from Monticello had many interesting rocks.  They aren't all in the National Park.  There was one which looked like a Star Wars space vehicle; and Wilson arch is very impressive.   Wilson Arch In Moab we stayed at the KOA Campground which had heated swimming pool, and other games like horse shoes and corn hole.  The cliffs behind the campground are very impressive, and there is a good view of the La Sal mountains. moon We tried a Mexican restaurant in Moab and were very disappointed, Fiesta Mexicana.  Very expensive and not very good with poor service.  I did have shrimp and mushrooms and must admit the mushrooms for delicious--but nobody else in the party seemed to enjoy it very much.

Kingman Restaurant Review: Rutherford's 66 Family Diner

Image
Rutherford's has a unique location; on route 66 but not in the downtown area.  It is on route 66 north of Stockton Hill Road, close to the Kingman Post Office.  It has extensive route 66 decor, but where we visited at night didn't show up in my pictures.   The nicest thing I noticed about Rutherford's was the friendly nature of the host and the sere staff.  Instead of telling you where to sit the gave two or three options and let you choose.  I enjoyed my patty melt sandwich.  Being late in the day, the dessert choices were limited.  The only thing they had left was cheese cake which I had.  They put some strawberry topping on it for me.  I really enjoyed it.  I really liked Rutherford's, but my wife not so much as me.  She said she prefers Mr. Dz. lots of neon which didn't show up well in my picture
