Last Stop on Olympic National Park Tour: Visitors Center, Port Angeles

Image
The park is designed so an arm of the park extends into Port Angeles.  From here is the road to Hurricane Ridge.  For us the visitor's center became our last stop because the road up Hurricane Ridge was closed for repairs after some flooding in the area. Here there was a nice display of a whaling boat with accessories, including a wooden box and a mat.  Also a harpoon with a bladder.  There were also a couple wildlife exhibits.

Sol Duc Campground, River and Water Fall

Image
Sol Duc is also spelled Sole Duck.  The campground was nice, but they didn't seem to give a discount for the senior National Park card as under private management by the resort and hot spring.   Sol Duc Campground The hike to the water fall was fun.  The waterfall was very pretty.  It is a three-tiered fall.  On the way back we heard a very strange sound and concluded it must have been a mountain lion. In leaving the area we stopped at a salmon run.  We actually saw some jump, but never captured them in pictures.

Olympic National Park: Mushrooms

Image
The plentiful amount of, and variety of mushrooms makes Olympic National Park unique.   My attempts at identification are sketchy at best.  If you know better let me know.  Lots of back and white mushrooms clinging to trees that were rubbery in texture.
