Kingman Restaurant Reviews: Hualapai Mountain Resort

Image
This post was originally from April 2021.  The setting for this restaurant is lovely, and the food is equally as pleasing.  I was told that you can see elk and deer as you eat through the window.  We did not have that luck; must have been the wrong time of the year.  The only wildlife we saw was bird and squirrels.   (We have returned with kids when they visit and have seen the elk through the window.) The food was delightful.  I ordered the meat loaf sandwich I had heard about.  It did not disappoint.  The meatloaf had enough sweetness, and adding the onion and lettuce made the taste exquisite.  My only issue was how to eat it as a sandwich.  The meatloaf was just too thick so I had to use a knife.  I had ordered the clam chowder as my side (which was nice) but then wanted to try their home made potato chips so added this as an appetizer.  They really were good for the most part.  Every once in a while a chip had too much salt.  Sheri had prime rib French Dip.  Being prime rib the mea

Giant City Sate Park, Carbondale, Ill Saturday June 18-19

Image
I spent only one night at the Giant City State Park.  I was surprised by how close it was to Carbondale.  I had never camped there before.  The other surprising thing I discovered is the lodge.  They served the best chicken I think I have ever eaten.  It was very juicy.  I didn't find the cliffs I knew as a youth.  However the campground was very nice with a shower.  It was also very inexpensive.  They also had cabins with a pool.  There was a water tower for climbing.   lodge pictures: Jerry Sloan from McCleansboro Rush Limbaugh from Cape Cirardeau CCC worker memorial lodge courtyard

Temple Baptism Trip July 30.

Image
17 Young men and women visited the Las Vegas Temple early in the morning July 30.  There were also six adults.  Our session was at 9 a.m. and a two hour drive had us leaving Kingman at 6:45.  I really love the young people in our ward and the spiritual blessings they bring to the ward.  For my part close to 100 individuals were baptized and confirmed.  Additionally some did temple names and some people brought their own names.  It was a terrific morning.  Brother Swigert took us to Cafe Rio for an early lunch.  I am not sure if he paid or the ward.  I had a very special and spiritual time.  I hope the youth did as well.

Kingman Restaurant Review: Kingman Chophouse

Image
Sheri and I made our first trip to the Chophouse for our anniversary dinner.  I had heard it was expensive and was prepared for this.  However it wasn't that bad.  I found the senior menu and had my 65th birthday the week before.  The food was very good.  I had hamburger steak and mushrooms.  I love mushrooms.  Of course the senior portion was a bit smaller.  But a serving of steak is three ounces.  My steak was eight ounces and I couldn't eat it all.  Sheri, who is not a senior, ordered the Delmonico.  This is a rib eye steak.  She loved hers as well.  We shared a cheese cake for dessert which was covered in caramel sauce which was most excellent.  I had the loaded baked potato and Sheri plain.  They served bread.  Sheri had the dinner salad and I the clam chowder.  The chowder had a terrific flavor and was very clammy.  For Sheri it was too clammy but I loved it.  We had a very good time.  The Chophouse is not as loud as Texas Roadhouse but it was loud a couple times.  Howev

Happy 39th Wedding Anniversary

Image
Our anniversary is August 11, but we went out on August 12 as I was at the temple and in Bullhead for our anniversary.  Sheri wanted steak dinner so we picked the Kingman Chophouse .  This was our first venture.  We talked about our marriage and how we can improve at what we have done right; and wrong over the years.  Happy 39th to Sheri.  It was been worth the ride.

Monsoon Season and Local Flash Flooding

Image
The monsoons are welcome in Arizona.  The provide needed moisture.  However they also cause flash flooding which can be dangerous.  Two men in Golden Valley were swept away in their pickup trucks and passed away this year.  Golden Valley is close to Kingman.  There was also a woman in Golden Valley whose vehicle was swept away but she saved herself by leaving the vehicle and holding on to a stop sign until rescued.  Scary or not the monsoons provide beautiful skies.  It is interesting how one part of the sky is dark and another bright at the same time.  Also some incredible lightning storms.   Over Kingman Over Bullhead
