Route 66 Museum: Kingman

Image
The Highway 66 Museum is located in the old Power Plant building with the Visitors Center.  It is upstairs.  I really enjoyed the John Steinbeck section.  The had an old truck which would be similar to the Joads traveling across the country,  There was also a good display of the old city center in the days of Route 66.

Beale Theater Ghost Walk tour A

Image
This is the sixth annual Ghost Walk by Beale Theater.  This is a very enjoyable presentation and worthy of any ghost story or history buff.   I consider myself both so I was in my element.  This is a review of the performance, but I have written up the stories which you can link to here .  There was a story about two brothers who burnt themselves up at the old jail.  This was complete with eerie lights and banging sounds.   We were introduced to Lewis Kingman.  The story of the Screaming ghost of Slaughter House Canyon was introduced.  This was complete with screams.  I missed some of the next presentation as we were still walking up when he started.  However the cowboy told the story of a murder, and the ghost that comes back once a year to ride off with his friends.   Hi Jolli of Hadji Ali told the story of the red camel ghost.  She indicated this ghost has been seen in Kingman above the "K" on the hills behind...

Welcome to Kingman: Museums

Kingman has many museums and exhibits.  In addition to the museums are many stores with interesting items.   Kingman Army Air Field Museum  has been closed for over a year. Mohave Museum of History and Art   has many fine displays.  This includes Native American History, Beale road history, Kingman Army Air Field, Highway 66 history, mining history, Andy Devine and much more.  In the library is a display of art by Roy Purcell. Bonelli House  was built in 1915 and occupied by the Bonelli family until the sold the home to the city of Kingman.  It was make from tuff stone blocks to resist fire as the family had a previous home burn down.  It is now used for tours presenting a period view.  The home had electricity and thus many appliances. Kingman Visitor's Center

My first venture to the Kingman Visitor's Center was fun.  There is a wall with all kinds of tourist pamphlets from the around Arizona.  The local pamphlets are in the corner.  I was most interested in these because the whether is cooling off and I want to get out and explore the area.  I got Oatman, Peach Springs, Chloride and Dolan Springs information.   Also lots of Kingman brochures, including map to the Monolith, Cerbat trail system.  They have books about local history.  I got a couple books about Arizona ghosts.  There are touristy knick knacks.  Sheri is interested in post cards and they were available for only $.30 each. The building is located in an old power plant.  It also houses the Route 66 museum.

Kingman Museums: Bonelli House Tour

Image
The Bonelli House tour is great.  It tells briefly the story of the Bonelli family, but more importantly has some great items from the past, 1915 to about 1970.
