San Diego Bay Cruise: Spring Break 2022

Image
Spring Break 2022 With the San Diego Package we decided to go on the bay cruise.  This included seeing the San Diego skyline, and the Navy operations in the bay.  The depth of the bay had to be dredged and the material was placed strategically to allow for recreation.  We had a fun time floating and taking pictures.  Coronado Island is really not and island as it connects at one point.  Most of the Navy fleet is moored on the other side of the bridge but the aircraft carriers are too tall to get under the bridge.  There was lots of helicopter activity--both Navy and Marine. old ship, still used once a year to show it still works Small Barge for Navy Seal practice.  We saw the Navy seals getting ready with their motorized rafts. Aboard the USS Midway: Aircraft Carrier: 2022 Spring Break Trip to San Diego

Spring Break 2022 The USS Midway was decommissioned and turned into a museum in San Diego.  It did not actually serve at the battle of Midway but was named for the battle.  It actually missed WWII being commissioned in 1945.  However it served in Korea, Vietnam, and was the lead ship in the First Gulf War.  On its deck are two take off runways.  The hangar is below deck with three elevators to get the planes ready.  I felt the highlight of the visit was the theater where was presented the story of the Battle of Midway.  However many other things were fascinating.  I liked the radar room as my father served in a radar room during WWII.  There was a room which presented the history of the helicopter.  The anchors are very large.  There were two of them.  We did the tour below deck and above deck in the control tower which was very interesting.  In the hangar and on deck were planes of many different types.  There was a ...

Mormon Battalion Visitor's Center: Spring Break Trip to San Diego 2022

Image
Spring Break 2022 The Mormon Battalion Visitors Center is incredible.  The presentation involves animated pictures, with the characters going from portrait to portrait and telling the story.  The sister are also part of the story telling and it is very effective.  You then get to the end with a place to check on genealogy of those in the battalion as well as a canon and other artifacts.  Outside is a gold panning spot in memory of those who went north and helped discover gold.   Tony panning.  You can find fools gold. Tony decked out as a battalion soldier demonstrating al they had to carry.

Spring Break 2022: San Diego and Morro Bay

For spring break this year Sheri purchased the San Diego packages for all of us and we went and did the tourist thing of San Diego.  Of course the San Diego temple and the Mormon Battalion Visitor Center were not part of the package, but the USS Midway Museum, Sea World, San Diego Zoo and Bay cruise were part of the package.  Of course one of the reasons for visiting San Diego was to see Grandpa Scoresby.  He now lives with Cammie and Trent who we also saw.  I took advantage and visited the temple in San Diego.  This was my first time inside the temple.     USS Midway Sea World San Diego Zoo San Diego Bay Cruise Mormon Battalion Visitors Center Carlsbad Beach There were also a couple tourist views close to the pier where the Midway was docked.  There was a memorial of the end of WWII and also a tribute to Bob Hope entertaining the troops.   Morro Bay
