Beale Street Theater: A Christmas Carol
Attended the Beale Street Theater presentation of "A Christmas Carol" this past Friday. This is the Charles Dickens work as adapted by Ed Monk. It was directed by Malachi Ayers. This was not a musical version, but it did have a chorus singing before and throughout the show to help with transitions. They sang traditional carols and were dressed in the Dickens style. I felt the music was the highlight to the presentation. The actors were in character and portrayed the mood of the presentation. I am very familiar with the story and this helped, but the show was well presented. My only complaint was Scrooge's drooping pants. And may we all keep Christmas in our hearts year round and honor the past, the present and the future.
