Eclipse April 2024

Image
Sheri was in Indiana, where the eclipse was full.  She went to a park with the boys to watch.  We in Kingman didn't get a full eclipse but it was still cool.  Sheri took all the glasses with her so we did the best we could. Carbondale, Illinois where I lived a couple years as a youth was featured as there were weddings and complete darkness. SHeri and boys at a park in Bristol, Indiana Using the colander made a cool pattern and didn't hurt the eyes

Ghost Walk 2023

Image
One thing that makes Kingman unique are the ghost walks.  the happen every year a couple weeks before Halloween.  King has plenty of cool ghost sgtories.  It seems most of the downtown stores have their own unique ghost stories.  The most unique is the guy whose head 0opped off when he was being hanged for the murder of his girlfriend.  He is seen dragging his head around, mostly haunting Lee Williams High School as he was buried there before the high school was built. Our tour guides.  Here telling the story of the ghost haunting Beale Theater Emma is portraying Madame Jack Black of the rabbit patch (red-light district) and her parrot.  The parrot died and was afforded a funeral with headstone and everything.  When the school was built and the cemetery relocated, so was the parrot. Repesentation of Hadji Ali aka Hi Jolly who was the camel coordinator for the Beale camel crossing of Arizona. Don't rememb er the story but in front of the olde...

Gentri Concert just after Thanksgiving 2023

Image
After Thanksgiving we went to Salt Lake from Miranda's to catch the Gentri concert.  I think everyone but myself preferred it to the Jenny Oaks Baker concert from the year before.  However they do have a unique sound and sing some very nice Christmas songs to get you in the Christmas mood.  I particularly like "I Saw Three Ships come Sailing In"

After Tony's volleyball game I stopped by the concert at the high school.  The concert was provided  by the Lee Williams High School choir, the combined middle school choir (White Cliffs and Kingman), and a combined elementary school choir.  Elementary combined sand Doo Wah Diddy Diddy, Round the Mountain and When I Believe.  Middle School combined sand Pure Imagination and Promised Land.  High School sang Wad in the Water and By the Waters.  They concluded the concert with the Crawdad Song.  Made for a short and sweet concert.  The said this is the fortieth year for this annual concert. Thanksgiving 2023

We did something different for Thanksgiving.  We went to Miranda's house and let her host Thanksgiving.  Her place was small but we made it work.  Even Mark and family joined use, Juniper and the three boys.  The day after we went to Gentri concert in SLC.

And Just Like That, Tony's Volleyball Season is Over

Image
Tony played in the first two seasons of volleyball at Lee Williams High School.  He had a terrific time, but just like that his season is over.  They ended on a high note however with two victories their last two games in Kingman, and a road loss in Prescott Valley to Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday.  Tony played great all three games.  The last game was his Senior Night so we walked out with him before the game.  It has been fun watching him play.  Tony mostly plays libero, I think he likes that best.  He gets to play most of the game as libero but always plays on the back row and he cannot jump and spike, even from the back row.  Tony has a very good serve.  He is very accurate.  When he served the team usually were able to score some points.   With coach

Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, AKA The Archway or Kearney Archway: Outside Views

Image
Before entering the Archway, there is lots to see on the outside.  There is discussion of the Lincoln Highway, a large pond with bridge and fish under the bridge, and statues telling stories of local pioneers, including the stories of two young people who fled from Native Americans on a horse, and were stapled together by an arrow and went through one boy and into the other. They lived.  There are also many buffalo statues.        Inside the Arch
